With 133,088+ residents, our area has been steadily growing, increasing in population by 5.8% in the last five years. Our cost of living is 15.7% below the national average. Because we’re such an affordable county in which to live, over 75% of our population owns their own home.
Arts & Entertainment
From the Appalachian Ballet to the Clayton Center for the Arts to children’s theater, Blount County offers a rich cultural experience. Throughout our community, residents will enjoy historical and entertainment venues, restaurants, and events. Not only can residents choose from a large assortment of entertainment options, but they can also easily access all of East Tennessee’s hot spots by venturing just outside the county. The Shed brings in the best local and national talent for nightly entertainment.
Outdoor Recreation
Blount County has an abundance of recreational opportunities for all ages, including easy access to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. With an average high temperature of 69.3°F Blount County’s weather is ideal for being outside all year long. Here, outdoor enthusiasts can have it all—water sports, team sports, individual sports, bicycling, hiking, walking, running, and more.
Education
Blount County’s K-12 schools are some of the highest rated schools in the state of Tennessee. Most children in Blount County attend school in one of the following districts: Maryville City Schools, Alcoa City Schools, or Blount County Schools. Others attend Maryville Christian School, Apostolic Christian Academy or Clayton-Bradley Academy private schools. With a 95% high school graduation rate, we are proud of the level of education our schools provide.
Healthcare
Blount County has access to 13 regional hospitals, including East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Our local hospital Blount Memorial is part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. That means Blount Memorial Hospital patients benefit from physicians who have special access to Mayo Clinic’s knowledge and expertise. Blount Memorial Hospital also has a cancer center that provides comprehensive cancer care from diagnosis to treatment.
Air Service
McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) handles commercial airline service, air cargo operations, military and general aviation. Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and United Airlines all service the area. It is home to the 134th Air Refueling Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard. Additionally, Cirrus Aircraft operates its training facility at the airport and is now responsible for thousands of flight operations each year. Likewise, TAC Air, the airport’s fixed based operator, continues to expand in hangar space and services they offer.
